What is Mystery Shopping?

Mystery shopping is a research method where everyday consumers act as customers and evaluate businesses based on specific guidelines. As a Shared Insight mystery shopper, you may be asked to observe how staff greet you, how quickly you’re served, whether products are displayed correctly, or if brand standards are followed. After your visit, you’ll complete an online feedback form about your experience. This feedback helps businesses improve service, operations, and overall customer satisfaction.

What to Expect as a Mystery Shopper

Mystery Shopping assignments vary by client and industry. Some jobs may involve making a small purchase, asking a question, or dining at a restaurant. Each assignment includes clear instructions so you’ll know exactly what to do and what to look for. Afterward, you’ll submit your observations in our shopper portal. Shoppers are paid per assignment, and compensation details are provided up front with every opportunity.

We will never ask shoppers to handle check cashing tasks or to test money transfer services. If you are ever asked to pay money to join a mystery shopping program, it’s a scam - Shared Insight never charges a fee to register or to receive assignments.
